Do Not Try This At Home
A cold towel on your forehead will get rid of a headache…ginger ale will settle your stomach…an an apple a day will keep the doctor away are just a couple of things we all have done to “get well” or avoid a trip to the doctor. I’m sure you can think of at least 3 or 4 “old wives’ tales” for what ails you. And probably some of them actually work. BUT BE WARE! There are just some things that you should just not try at home. Here are six provided by Quality Health News:
1. Chronic Bad Breath is not cured by brushing your teeth or mouthwash. If you suffer from really bad bad breath, to to the dentist immediately! You might have something much more serious that only a dentist or periodonist can diagnose. And remember, most mouth washes contain alcohol - and that can make your breath even worse.
2. Got a hangover? Whatever you do, don’t try to bite the dog that bit you. That will only provide short-term relief from the headache and just plain bad feeling that is sure to come. Take an aspirin and drink lots of non-alcholic beverages…then vow never ever to take a drink again (or at least not today)!
3. Clean your system-have a colonic. O.K. so having a colonic has been all the rage and rave since about 2006. No doubt you probably know at least one person that swears by this procedure. But, if you’re thinking about having one, keep in mind that there is NO evidence that colonics actually work or do anything; and that there are some risks to the procedure that include: perforated colon, infection, or allergic reaction. Might want to drink plenty of water instead.
4. If you want to get rid of freckles, rub a live frog on your skin. Look, this just doesn’t work - so leave the frog alone and go to a dermatologist instead if your freckles really bother you. They can be removed by a laser or a the perscription cream Retin-A.
5. Put a candle in your ear to relieve tinnitus, depression, depression and boost your energy. Now this is one that I’ve never heard of before; but I gotta say that it sounds really strange and tops the list. Apart from the fact that you could rupture your eardrum - this just does not work at all!
6. Put ice or butter on a burn. Putting ice on a burn will cause more skin damage and butter will attrack bacteria around the wound. Just run water over the burn for several minutes if its minor.
